Abstract

A model is proposed for predicting the OH( 2Π) spin-orbit and Λ-doublet and Cl( 2P) spin-orbit product state distributions resulting from the photodissociation of HOCl via its 1 1A″ excited state. The model predicts that the OH(Π(A″)) Λ-doublet states will be preferentially populated but that there will be no strong preference for either OH spin-orbit state. Some correlation between the OH and Cl spin-orbit states is also predicted. Comparisons are made with predicted quantum state distributions resulting from the photodissociation of HOCl via its 2 1A′ state.
