Abstract
1. The conversion of naphthalene and perdeuteronaphthalene in cellulose triacetate is a complex photochemical free-radical process and proceeds with the participation of macroradicals. 2. Evidently the process is initiated by a singly-excited triplet state of naphthalene, differing in nature from the phosphorescent state. 3. A decrease in the rate of photoconsumption of naphthalene was detected when its initial concentration in the sample of cellulose triacetate was increased under vacuum.
