Abstract

Mono- and dianionic oxocarboxylate Ru-Mn12 clusters, [RuNO(en)2Cl]-[Mn12O12(O2CR)16(H2O)4]2 (R = Ph (1)), [RuNO(en)2Cl][Mn12O12(O2CR)16(H2O)4] (R = C6F5 (2), CH2Cl (3), R = CHCl2 (4)), and [RuNO(NH3)4OH][Mn12O12(O2CR)16(H2O)4] (R = CH2Cl (5), CHCl2 (6)) containing photochromic mononitrosyl ruthenium complexes as cations were synthesized. The magnetic properties of the complexes in static and alternating magnetic fields were studied, and compounds 1–6 were found to be molecular nanomagnets. By IR spectroscopy, they were shown to exhibit also photochromic properties.
