Abstract

The rate control of decolorization of photochromic chalcone containing polymer with spiropyran dye was achieved successfully by virtue of [2π+2π] photo-cycloaddition between the chalcone units. The kinetic measurement was conducted to prove the photostability of the merocyanine chromophore that is colored species of spiropyran. The chalcone–epoxy polymer system that contains chalcone group in the repeating unit was proved to retard the decaying behavior of photochromism most effectively resulting from the steric hindrance after UV irradiation.
