Abstract

MeReO 3 forms a violet adduct with oxine (8-quinolinol or 8-hydroxyquinoline). MeReO 3(oxine) shows a long-wavelength absorption at λ max=540 nm which is assigned to a CH 3 −→oxine (ligand-ligand charge transfer) transition. LLCT excitation leads to the formation of methane and ReO 3(oxinate) as stable photoproducts with φ=0.0015 at λ irr=546 nm in CH 3CN.
