Abstract On 1π, π*-excitation (λ=254 nm, pentane), α,β-unsaturated γ,δ-epoxy nitrile showed selective product formation via carbonyl ylide and carbene intermediates; (E/Z)-isomerization and C(γ),O-cleavage of the oxirane, which are triplet processes, did not occur.
