Abstract

The photochemical carbonyl substitution reaction of Re 2(CO) 10 with P(OPh) 3 was studied under vacuum. Using mass, 31P NMR, and IR spectroscopic data, four well-characterized new products, in addition to a mononuclear hydride mer-HRe(CO) 3[P(OPh) 3) 2, were obtained: 1- ax-2′,4′-di- eq-Re 2(CO) 7[P(OPh) 3] 3; 1,1′-di- ax-2,2′-di- eq-Re 2(CO) 6[P(OPh) 3] 4; 2,2′,4,4′-tetra- eq-Re 2(CO) 6[P(OPh) 3] 4 and 1,1′-di- ax-2,2′,4,4′-tetra- eq-Re 2(CO) 4[P(OPh) 3] 6. The isolated highly substituted metal carbonyl products are the isomers with favorable steric repulsive interactions among the triphenyl phosphite ligands.
