Abstract

The photochemical reaction of (η 5-C 5H 5) 2NbH 3 with Mn 2(CO) 10 leads to an ionic product, [((η 5-C 5H 5) 2(CO)Nb) 2(μ-H)] +[Mn(CO) 5] −, whose crystal structure suggests a localized, asymmetric bonding description, Cp 2(CO)NbH → Nb(CO)Cp 2 +, with NbNb = 3.7739(8) Å. The NMR signal for the bridging hydrogen sharpens at lower temperatures.
