Abstract
The cytotoxicity of natural enediyne antibiotics can be modulated by using an enediyne precursor that can be converted into the desired compound. In this paper, the authors present an enediyne precursor, compound 5, that, upon irradiation, forms an enediyne which undergoes a Bergman cyclization. In preliminary experiments, the enediyne compound 6 was able to induce DNA cleavage.
