Abstract

The synthesis, characterization, and applications of liquid-crystalline polymers are emerging areas of scientific research. Lyotropic and thermotropic mesomorphic polymers are briefly reviewed, and the spectroscopic properties of solutes in liquid-crystal polymer hosts are discussed. The results of some photochemical investigations in ordered systems are described. Potential uses of liquid-crystal polymers are given.
