Abstract

This study reports the elimination of metal ions from solutions by the photodeposition of metal ions onto Pt-loaded titanium dioxide powder. Metal salts used were Pb(NO/sub 3/)/sub 2/, MnSo/sub 4/, TlNO/sub 3/, CoCl/sub 2/ and HgSo/sub 4/. The deposition rate increased in the order: Pb/sup 2 +/ > Mn/sup 2 +/ > Tl/sup 2/2= > Co/sup 2 +/. Results indicate that oxygen serves as an electron acceptor, so that the charge separation between the electron and positive hole is promoted.
