Abstract

ABSTRACTThe excessive use of herbicides can cause ground water contamination and is also a potential threat to the nearby aquatic ecosystem. In this work, we report photocatalytic degradation of metamitron using CeO2 and Fe/CeO2. The effect of catalyst loading on the degradation was studied. A significant effect on photocatalytic degradation was observed with bare-CeO2. On the other hand, photolysis and Fe/CeO2 displayed similar effect on the degradation. Thus, it was concluded that lowering the band gap, by doping, is not always favorable for enhancing the photocatalytic degradation.
