Abstract

The kinetic of the photocatalytic degradation of malachite green carried out by a semiconductor catalyst TiO2 and O2/UV has been observed in this research. The photocatalytic degradation of malachite green followed a 0.4th order of reaction with a rate constant of 0.015 ppm/min. Initial maximum concentration of 20 ppm under the 6 watt UV light in 360 minutes showed maximum degradation percentage of 60.02%, whereas the optimum pH of 7 showed that 60.02% of this color was degraded in the initial concentration of 40 ppm. The major degradation compound resulted from the photocatalytic degradation of malachite green was 4-N-N-dimetilaminobenzofenon.
