Abstract

In this investigation, Nb2O5-α-Fe2O3 nanocomposites were synthesized by modified sol-gel method. The obtained materials were characterized by different techniques such as powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET), UV-vis diffuse reflectance (UV-vis spectroscopy). The catalyst was found to have a particle size in the region of 20-42 nm with a high surface area. The effects of the catalyst dose, the pH value, UV power, addition of H2O2 and scavenger on the photocatalytic efficiency were investigated. This study presents a strategy to eliminate highly toxic and persistent dyes such as DB 199 dye. It was observed that the nanocomposites showed maximum response with more than 80% degradation of DB 199 dye in 100 min.
