Abstract

Photogalvanic effects on Pt electrode during pheophytin ‘a’ photooxidation in dry acetone have been studied. It has been shown that the addition of Mn 2+ ions considerably increases photopotential and decreases pigment photobleaching. Photoanode on the base of pheophytin-sensitized oxidation of manganese ions allows one to obtain open-curcuit photovoltage +750 mV and short-curcuit photocurrent 100 μA/cm 2. The effect of electron transfer mediator (Mn 2+) and acceptor reduction irreversibility [C(NO 2) 4] on the whole photochemical process is discussed.
