Abstract

A type of novel spironaphthoxazine functionalized polyether dendrimers have been synthesized by coupling photoactive spironaphthoxazine groups to the peripheral carboxylic acid of dendrimers. This type of functionalized dendrimer can not only undergo photoresponsive structural changes but also can act as carriers of metal ions that can be chelated and released by means of a light beam. The color of the complex of spironaphthoxazine dendrimer and metal ions varies with the type of metal used.
