Abstract

The photoabsorption cross section and fluorescence excitation spectrum of S 2Cl 2 vapor were measured in the range 110–200 nm using synchrotron radiation. A number of broad bands observed in the 120–170 nm region are assigned as Rydberg transitions. The fluorescence which starts to appear at 155.0±1.6 nm is attributed to the S 2 (B 3Σ u −-X 3Σ g −) band. As for the of emitting species, the process of S 2(B) + 2Cl is predominant for excitation in the 120–155 nm region, whereas another emission appears below 130 nm.
