Abstract

Recent studies document that mitochondria from mouse skin (1), human lung fibroblasts (2) and calf thymus (3) contain a deoxyguanosine (dG) kinase which is distinctly different from that found in the cytosol. A preliminary report (4) has shown that dG is taken up by intact, respiring rat liver mitochondria by a carrier mediated process. This report extends that study and shows that after being transported into the mitochondria, dG is phos-phorylated to its corresponding deoxynucleotide products.
