Abstract

The behavior of phosphorus grain boundary segregation is researched for an interstitial-free Ti steel which is cold rolled and recrystallized by annealing for different times at 810 °C. The results show that the segregation of phosphorus at the grain boundary is a non-equilibrium phenomenon. The critical segregation time is 120 s, when the segregation level is about 14 at.%. Its segregation mechanism is a solute atom “atmosphere” that is formed around each dislocation and moves toward grain boundary.
