Abstract

Phospholipids are necessary components of all hormone-sensitive adenylate cyclase systems. We have previously described the preparation of a solubilized myocardial adenylate cyclase which is unresponsive to hormonal stimulation. Phosphatidylserine restored histamine and glucagon activation and phosphatidylinositol restored norepinephrine activation of the solubilized enzyme freed of detergent by DEAE-cellulose chromatography. The possible relationship of phospholipids to calcium transport and hormone-induced adenylate cyclase activation in sarcoplasmic reticulum is discussed.
