Abstract
On a warm Monday morning in May, 2000, a 34-year-old female secretary went to her office in the middle of a German town. She noticed a strong smell of garlic on the stairs, intensified in the office itself, which prompted her six colleagues to open all the windows. They worked all the morning with a background smell of garlic. At noon, the weather took a turn for the worse, so they had to close the windows. The smell became more noticeable, and the secretary felt nauseated, and developed a headache and a sore throat.
