Abstract

Phorbol esters are a family of compounds which act as tumour promoters in experimental animals and induce a variety of phenotypic changes as detected in cultured cells(1.2.). Studies of the cellular action of phorbol esters revealed that they act synergistica11y with many growth factors (platelet derived growth factor, epidermal growth factor) to induce DNA synthesis but fail to synergise with others (vasopressin, bombesin) (3.4.).
