Abstract
Absorption and emission spectra of rare earth atoms in rare gas matrices are discussed. There are zero-phonon lines with vibrational sidebands in the range 10 cm −1 to 50 cm −1 due to pseudolocalized modes. One of these modes appears in emission on the anti-stokes side at proper excitation, suggesting the assumption of an extremely high lifetime.
