Abstract

In order to establish macroscopic and microscopic evaluations of phonon properties in cuprate high-Tc superconductors, specific heat and inelastic X-ray scattering (IXS) experiments have been performed in the simplest parent compound SrCuO2. We demonstrate that the phonon density of states (ph-DOS) can be precisely determined from the IXS spectrum. From the ph-DOS spectrum, several fundamental phonon parameters such as the Debye temperature and the average sound velocity have been estimated, the former being crosschecked by the independent measurement of the specific heat.
