Abstract

In this paper, some recent experiments are described that illustrate the nonlinear interaction of longitudinal and transverse elastic waves in isotropic solids. Both classical and quantum theories of phonon-phonon interaction are discussed, and correspondence between the two is developed. Experimental results are shown to be in relatively good agreement with theoretical predictions.
