Abstract

This paper traces the evolution of the Chinese rhymes from the Wei Dynasty into the Liang Dynasty. The assumption is made that the rhyming of the poets of this period reflected their literary dialect and following this the evolutionary path taken by the rhymes serves as a guide to their phonological evolution.
