Abstract

Abstract A description is provided for Phomopsis theae . Information is included on the disease caused by the organism, its transmission, geographical distribution, and hosts. HOSTS: On Camellia sinensis . DISEASE: Collar and branch canker of tea. The symptoms are visible at a distance and appear at first as a yellowing and browning of part or the whole of a bush. The gradual killing of the bark around the infection site produces canker in the course of time. The disease was formerly attributed to Leptothyrium theae Petch. GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION: Africa (Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania, Uganda); Asia (India, Ceylon) TRANSMISSION: By splash dispersal of conidia from infected tissues.
