Abstract

Two Lycopodium alkaloids named phlegmadines B (1) and C (2), along with biogenetically related known compounds 3–6, were obtained from Phlegmariurus phlegmaria. Their structures were elucidated based on NMR spectroscopic analysis, and the absolute configuration of 1 was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Compounds 1 and 2 represent the first pentacyclic (6/5/5/5/7) C16N2Lycopodium alkaloid skeleton. In addition, a possible biosynthetic pathway for 1 and 2 was proposed. Moreover, compound 1 exhibited moderate neurotrophic effects on PC12 cells.
