Abstract

The objective of this article is double. First, to present the conception of Leo Strauss (1899-1973) on liberal education, interpreting it and relating it to other ideas of his thought. Second, to state what challenges and theoretical needs Strauss's idea of liberal education must face in order for it to be vindicated. The reflection offered in this text aims to be the first step in a larger project that can, in turn, defend the reading of the great books of philosophy, and especially political philosophy, as valid elements for current reflection.
