Abstract
The centenary of the motor car in 1986 was a felicitous occasion for Daimler-Benz AG to set up a foundation and to name it after the founders of the company, Gottlieb Daimler and Karl Benz. Yet Daimler-Benz does not just owe to the founders its name, but above all the development of a unique modern product that has pioneered an industrial revolution and secured the company's existence to the present day.
