its superintendent from 1897 to 1899. During his sojourn at Kankakee he found time to serve as professor of pathology at the Northwestern University Dental School. For several years he was professor of nervous and mental diseases at the Northwestern University Medical School. A detailed outline of his course in psychiatry was printed in the university bulletin. While at Kankakee, he formulated an elaborate outline for history taking and the examination of patients, which gives a good picture of the psychiatric concepts of the time, dominated by the degeneration theories of Lombroso and Nordau, with emphasis on anthropologie measurements.
