Abstract

Pheromones can be used to monitor insect populations or to control directly certain pest species by mass-trapping or mating-disruption techniques. The potential advantages of using pheromones for crop protection in these various ways are illustrated by examples taken mainly from work conducted in the Mediterranean region by members of the Scientific Units of the Overseas Development Administration.
