Pheromone synthesis. Stereoselective synthesis of (.+-.)-(E)-6-isopropyl-3,9-dimethyl-5,8-decadienyl acetate, the racemate of the yellow scale pheromone, and its (Z)-isomer.

Abstract

Both (E)- and (Z)-isomers of (±)-6-isopropyl-3, 9-dimethyl-5, 8-decadienyl acetate were stereoselectively synthesized. The former was shown to be the racemate of the sex pheromone of the yellow scale, Aonidiella citrina.
