The classical syndrome of paroxysmal episodes of severe hypertension associated with pheochromocytoma of the adrenal gland is well known (Howard and Barker1). The fact that pheochromocytoma of the adrenal may at times be associated with a persistent, severe hypertension has been described by Kirshbaum and Balkin.2However, this fact is not generally appreciated.
