Abstract
The synthesis of enantiomerically pure (5S)-5-( d-menthyloxy)-4-(phenylsulfonyl)-2(5H)-furanone ( 4 ) and the application of 4 as efficient dienophile in Diels-Alder reactions under mild conditions with enantio-selectivities > 98% e.e. are described.
