Abstract

A new form of data analysis is used to present the shell effects in the Coulomb displacement energy. Various types of differences of the quantity A 1 3 (ΔE c ) are studied. The evaluated differences show a very regular behaviour which is correlated to magic numbers and to the ground state spins of neighbouring nuclei. A separation between the proton effects and the neutron effects makes it possible to present a new empirical relationship between Coulomb displacement energies, which reproduces all the shell effects.
