Abstract

The present lectures are devoted to a summary of our present understanding of the weak and electromagnetic interactions. The standard SU(3)color x SU(2) x U(l) gauge theory of strong and electroweak interactions is the general framework for the present discussion. We assume in particular that the t quark will eventually be discovered, thus filling the remaining gap in the three generations of fermions known so far. We shall mainly discuss the phenomenological aspects of flavordynamics in the standard model with particular emphasis on the more recent elements of experimental support for this theory and the empirical determination of its general parameters. We do not aim at a complete systematic review of the numerous interesting issues in the subject. We only intend to present a concise outline of the structure of charged and neutral currents without going into the detailed applications to various processes. The last two lectures are devoted to an elementary introduction to unified theories and their implications for experiment.
