Abstract

The enzyme phenoloxidase is present in plants as a proenzyme, which is activated by Ca 2+ or Mn 2+ at millimolar concentrations, or by trypsin at lower Ca 2+ concentrations. In Daucus carota cell cultures this proenzyme was shown to be present in the embryogenie strains, whereas the non-embryogenic strains lacked detectable phenoloxidase activity.
