Abstract

This poster presentation will compare results of experiments on the kinetics of phenol degradation by two microbial fixed-film populations with those published in the literature for more conventional aerobic treatment processes. The fixed-film populations, established and maintained in columnar fluidized-bed bioreactors, were initiated with the commercially available dry culture preparations Phenobac (Polybac Corp., Berlin, New Jersey) and Bichem 1001 and 1002 (Sybron Biochemicals, Birmingham, New Jersey). The effect of 0«, temperature, and phenol concentration on the rate of phenol degradation by the fixed-film population in batch reactors and fluidized-bed bioreactors will be discussed.
