Abstract

The device which is used to calculate both current and voltage with synchronization of time is the Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU). The main placement of the Phasor Measurement Unit is to obtain the full observability of the power system. The advanced version of SCADA is the Phasor Measurement Unit. The Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU) has the advantage that it can calculate both the magnitude and angle of the current and voltage from the buses which is connected to it. The Phasor Measurement Unit plays an important part in the Wide Area Measurement Unit (WAMS) and it has the enhanced feature of monitoring and the control power system. Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU) data develops the monitoring and control of the system. Due to more advantages of Phasor Measurement Unit, they were used in many countries. The techniques used for measuring phasor, prices for PMU installation factors, synchronization, PMU and WAMS application, model validation, parameter identification, and in which countries the Phasor Measurement Unit used was briefly explained in this paper.
