Abstract

The critical behavior of a ferromagnetic Ising film with amorphoussurfaces is studied within the framework of the effective fieldtheory. The method takes into consideration the fluctuation of theeffective field, and is based on a probability distribution of randomvariables which correctly accounts for all the single site kinematicrelations. The dependence of the critical temperature on exchangeinteraction strength ratio, film thickness, and amorphization ispresented. It is found that an order–disorder magnetictransition occurs by varying the thickness of the film. Such a resultis in agreement with experiments performed recently onFe-films.
