Abstract
Abstract X-ray investigations and high-field magnetization studies at low temperatures have been carried out on single crystals of NdS, NdSe and NdTe. Each compound undergoes a first-order tetragonal lattice distortion at its Neel temperature. A second phase transition between antiferromagnetic arrangements was observed in NdSe and NdTe in zero magnetic field, and two field-induced magnetic phases were found in each compound.
