Abstract
The performance of an adaptive coherent modem over the meteor burst (MB) channel is studied. The phase and timing jitter at a typical adaptive coherent receiver is computed. A jitter loss formula is derived which expresses the SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) penalty as a function of timing and phase offsets. The jitter loss is then incorporated into the MB system's performance, and it is shown that MB channel impairments can degrade the performance of an adaptive coherent modem severely. >
