Abstract

The phase structure of the fermionic system in the non-Abelian sigma model is studied. A (finite or infinite) discontinuity is found in the specific heat at the critical temperature at which symmetry is restored. The effect of introducing quantum fluctuations (leading to temperature-dependent scalar and pseudoscalar masses) on the specific heat is also studied.
