Abstract

Laves phase compounds Zr(Cr 1− x Mo x ) 2 with 0.0≤ x≤0.5 were synthesized with the hexagonal C14 and/or cubic C15 type structures. By using X-ray and neutron powder diffraction the structure of the alloys were determined, and in particular the sites for the 3 d metal substitution. The pressure composition ( P– C) isotherms were determined over the temperature range 293–453 K. The effect of the M/Cr substitution was studied with regards to the alloys and hydrides stability and the maximum hydrogen content.
