Abstract

Static power converters are widely used in the controlled conversion of AC and DC power. In this paper, several topologies of cycloinverters are suggested to replace the capacitors of single phase induction motors. When a sinewave is switched at every quarter cycle, a waveform having 90 degrees phase shift can be obtained. The switched waveform meets the requirement of phase shift in single phase induction motors though its harmonic performance is poor. To improve the output waveform significantly, pulse width modulated (PWM) switching is proposed. >
