Abstract

Phase shift cavity ring-down absorption spectroscopy with a continuous laser is used to measure the absorption coefficients and integrated cross-sections for the Δv=6 C–H stretching overtones of C 2H 4,C 2H 6,C 3H 8, n-C 4H 10, and n-C 5H 12. The absorption spectrum is obtained by measuring the magnitude of the phase shift that an intensity modulated continuous laser beam experiences upon passing through an optical cavity. Sensitive absorption detection ( 10 −6 cm −1 ) on gas-phase samples is demonstrated.
