Abstract
Phenomenon of phase separation with charge segregation is considered for low-doped manganites. The effects of giant dielectric permittivity and colossal magnetocapacitance due to phase separation accompanied by charged inhomogeneities are discussed. Long-range Coulomb interaction is responsible for the formation of inhomogeneous charged states and determines their characteristic length scales. Polar nanoscale areas are also formed at room temperature by applying electric field via the tip of scanning probe microscope to the surface of La0.9Sr0.1MnO3 and La0.89Sr0.11MnO3 single crystals. These results show the dependence of surface potential of induced area on the writing time, which is similar to that for ferroelectrics.
