Abstract

Optical line shapes and widths of an impurity interacting linearly with quasi-local modes (QLMs) in an amorphous matrix are investigated. Dynamical shifts of the electronic energy levels, caused by the interaction with the QLMs, are the reason for the broadening mechanism considered in this paper. The theoretical line shapes are discussed in the light of experimental results.
