Abstract
The phase noise spectrum of a flexural plate wave (FPW) ultrasonic sensor has been directly measured. The typical phase noise of an FPW sensor was observed to vary as 1/f at frequencies below 60 Hz, with a 1-Hz intercept of between -90 dB and -107 dB (rad/sup 2//Hz). This level of noise is consistent with the frequency jitter that is observed when the FPW sensor is configured in an oscillator. >
